JACK READ, SPECIAL GUEST

The MMD 500 welcomes a special guest, Jack Read . Jack was with the U.S. Coast Guard, Rescue Flotilla One, sailing off of Juno Beach (Canadian Sector) on D-Day. He was a Motor Machinist Mate on the 83 foot patrol boat. The 60 boat flotilla in total rescued 1438 souls from the water. After we took Cherbourg, he went ashore to secure the harbor area. He has been honored numerous times including being named Master Chief by the United States Coast Guard. Come and meet Jack, along with all our honored guests, this Memorial Day.

HIGH ROPES COURSE

A big Mercer THANK YOU to SGT Brittany Graeves of the PA Army National Guard for getting an exciting new exhibit for this year's Military Expo portion of the MMD 500- check out the high ropes course, available to anyone 12 years and older. Come visit SGT Graeves this Memorial Day on North Diamond Street along with all our other great military reps.
ERIC MONTGOMERY

Come to the Military Expo and visit with Eric Montgomery. He will be reenacting the life of his great uncle, Amin Isbir, a member of the 6th Naval Beach Battalion. Their mission on D-Day was to come ashore with the assault troops, disable mines and beach obstacles to clear lanes of shipping to land larger boats, establish shore to ship communication with the use of lights, flags and radio equipment, provide first aid and organize the wounded for evacuation and perform small boat motor repair. All of these tasks were to be done under fire. In the case of Omaha Beach, very deadly fire. Mr. Montgomery's great uncle was killed that morning. His equipment is army/navy based. He will have many signaling devices including all the signaling lamps that Navy employed on the beaches; a 12" 1000 Watt Shutter Style Lamp, an infrared "Pathfinder" beacon and a portable naval signal lamp, and last but not least, the red and yellow Navy semaphore flags. Come and visit Mr. Montgomery, along with current military representatives this Memorial Day in Mercer!
JON BAKER & VIETNAM RE-ENACTORS

Join Mr. Jon Baker and his fellow re-enactors from Time-line as they demonstrate what life was like for our soldiers in Vietnam. Time-line Enterprises is a group of like minded individuals, veterans and civilians who honor our nation's history through educating the public about the life and sacrifices made by our brave veterans. Visit their tent and learn more on Memorial Day at the Military Expo/ North Diamond Street/ 9:00 until 11:00 am.
POW/MIA  TABLE

The POW table is back!  Please visit USAF SSgt Kalee Lint to learn about the significance of all the items traditionally placed on the POW table.  This and many more displays will be at the Military Expo section of the MMD500 located on North Diamond Street.
CANNON  SALUTE AT CITIZEN'S CEMETERY

Please join SFC Rollin Shumaker (pictured here with his wife Christine).  The Sergeant will be leading the PA Army National Guard's 107th Bravo Company in a 21 cannon salute at the Citizen's Cemetery at 12:30, following the parade.  Thank you to the PA Army National Guard for supplying the howitzers, humvees and high ropes course to this year's MMD 500.
LIGHT MEDIUM TACTICAL VEHICLE (LMTV)

Thank you to SFC Ray Corvino (pictured with his wife Heather), PA Army National Guard and Mercer resident for bringing a LMTV to this year's Military Expo.  Check out this huge vehicle, along with all the other exhibits from 9:00 until 11:00 on North Diamond Street.
USAF ELECTRONIC RECRUITING VEHICLE

Come and meet Staff Sergeant Michelle Armour, USAF recruiter and check out this electronically decked out vehicle. SSgt Armour, along with her new recruits will be on North Diamond Street as part of the MMD 500 MILITARY EXPO.
MORE MILITARY EXPO HIGHLIGHTS

USMC CWO Emiliano Deleon has provided the MMD with large equipment for both the parade and the Military Expo. Good luck on your transfer and thank you for all you do!  Check out this MTL- multi-terrain loader... along with a combat load pack and flack gear used by the USMC.
RECRUITERS & RECRUITS - OLD AND NEW

Meet Hermitage Navy recruiter, Petty Officer Thomas Plecha, at the Military Expo from 9:00 to 11:00.





Do you recognize an of these new recruits? They are seasoned sailors now. Come and welcome even more future sailors at this year's parade. 






According to their recruiter, SGT Brittany Graeves, these are "the best recruits EVER. Come cheer them on at the MMD 500- 9:00 am at the Court House.
