MERCER MEMORIAL DAY 500 PRESENTS. . .  . . . .
                               STAFF SERGEANT PAUL GREANY, ARMY  (RET)

Paul Greany has been selected as one of three veterans to be honored May 30th.  He will participate in the Mercer Memorial Day 500 parade, observance and community picnic.
He served his country from 1967 to 1968 in Vietnam (Saigon, AnLoc, Longbien)  as part of the 11th Armored Cavalry (Black Horse) Regiment through two tours of duty.  Recognized for his leadership abilities he was promoted from private to Staff Sergeant in nineteen months.
He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts for having been shot in the back of the neck by an AK47 and being hit by shrapnel throughout his body from a rocket-propelled grenade.  He was also awarded the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf, 2 Presidential Unit Citations, the Vietnam Civil Defense Medal earned for participating in the Tet Offensive, 2 Vietnam Wound Medals, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal.  He achieved Sharpshooter status with pistol, rifle and machine gun.
